So Tuesday night (Valentines Day)I attended the 1st night of Rhumba Caliente at Club Choices sponsored by our friends at Jamnastics(one of our local salsa teams). Now I go out at least 3-4 nights a week salsa dancing so I know all the salsa venues out there..and I have to say people this is one of the best places a salsero could ask for. I saw some of my friends there but for those of you that didn't come you really missed out. The atmosphere is really nice as its been recently renovated..(you can still smell the brand new wood floors).First off there is a really nice bar area with tables and stools to sit and socialize at. There are 2 raised dance floors..with the best floors that I have danced on recently. The plus of this is that you don't have those itinerant people walking by with drink in hand and standing talking with their friends in your spot you are trying to dance in! The lighting is soft and elegant none of those weird red lights that flash you in the eyes when you're in the middle of a spin. In addition to the great atmosphere Jamnastics has hooked up with DJ Tony Ortiz..and if you want to dance salsa this is the DJ to listen to!! He played great salsa tunes all night with a cha-cha thrown in here and there a couple of Bachatas for those of you want to dance close to someone you know and a merengue or 2 just for fun. But I have to say the music was HOT!!! Also because the night is sponsored by Jamnastics they offer a Rueda class at 8:00 (something I'm not into but Its a good way to get your feet wet and learn some of those basic moves)Immediately afterward at 9:00 there is a beginner and intermediate lesson taught by Roberto and Murat two of the best instructors in the Boston area...and for a $10.00 cover you can't beat that. If you don't come for the classes and just want to dance its $8.00 at the door a pretty fair price and in line with other salsa venues in Boston. One plus of going to this location is that there is ample parking that is free...On the flip side the one drawback is that the "T" does not run by this way. So my answer to that would be to carpool with a friend because this place is worth going to if you want to salsa the night away. So give this night a try and help Jamnastics build a great new place for us to hang with your Salsa friends and a great place to practice those hard earned salsa skills...you really won't be sorry.
