Update #124, New Year's Pictures!
Hola Salseros!
Formatting messed up? Read this on the website at http://salsaboston.com/archive/SalsaUpdate124.html
HAPPY
NEW YEAR! I think Boston rolled in the New Year with NO SHORTAGE of Salsa
at both Ryles and Sophia's! I couldn't make it to Ryles but sources tell
me it was jamming, and Sophia's was SOLD OUT! Did you make it to
Sophia's? Check out the pictures now!
http://salsaboston.com/gallery/newyear2002/
If
anyone's got Ryles pictures in digital form, please send them to
me!
While I've got your attention, let me make a few disclaimers about
some things that I heard didn't go so smoothly at Sophia's. Unfortunately
I wasn't running the event directly, so I didn't have much control over certain
details. For example, I had been told that the coat check would be free of
charge, but it wasn't. Also, certain Sophia's staff members weren't
informed of the discounted price for Ryles/First Night people. My
apologies on both counts. For the next event I will insist on having more
control and certainty regarding these sorts of things. If you experienced
any particular problems, please share them with me so that I can be sure they
don't happen next time. (Aside from advance online ticket issues,
unfortunately there's little I can directly do about them for this past
event. Please contact Sophia's directly if you need.)
ANYWAY, so
you didn't buy yourself and advance ticket and didn't get in because of
it?!! Well... the infamous words, "I told you so" certainly
echo...
Please people, for ANY Salsa event, BUY YOUR TICKETS IN
ADVANCE! Promotion is a tough business and doing so really helps. It
makes the promoters happier since they know what to expect, it usually saves you
some bucks, and it guarantees that you will get in. It also usually takes
a load of the staff at the event. The result? Better events, more
fun, and less problems!!! Please do your part in 2002 and plan
ahead. How's that for a New Year's resolution?
SO...!
What's up for the first week of 2002?
This and every
Wednesday...

Mailbag
(one item):
The MIT Casino Rueda group would like to wish everyone a
Happy New Year's. Make sure you're sticking to those New Year's
Resolutions.
In addition to that, we would like to inform you of our IAP
worskshops. For those that do not know, The Casino Rueda Group offers a
series of 4 workshops every January. So now that the new year has
finally rolled around, we hope to see everyone back with a newfound
excitement. We would like to see more people dancing rueda in the
clubs, so please bring your friends, your family, or anyone else that is
interested. (DON'T FORGET TO RSVP!)
We will be giving 3-hour workshops
each Saturday in January (STARTING THIS COMING SATURDAY).
Dates:
Saturday 1/5, 1/12, 1/19, and 1/26 Times: 5:30-8:30 PM Where:
Room 491 Damage: $10
ALSO!!!!!! Some days, we will be staying an
extra hour afterward for people to practice what they've learned or anything
else in general. Just think of it as extra dancing time for all you salsa
addicts. If anyone wants any salsa pointers, we would be more than happy
to give them to you....All you need do is ask.
Remember that no partner
is necessary. People will be split up into three levels: beginner,
advanced beginner, and intermediate/advanced. Notice that these levels are
not designated in terms of salsa. If you dance salsa but not rueda, you
will be placed at a beginner level. It will be up to the discretion of the
instructors to move you up to the next level.
Workshops are formal
instruction, so bring your sweats, your jazz sneakers/dancing shoes, your water
bottles, and plenty of energy to burn for 3 hours straight. With that
said, we hope to see you all there.
Please RSVP by sending an email to
tinajero@mit.edu with your name, email/number, and your estimated
level.
