Mojitoville!
Hola Salseros!
Formatting messed up? Read this on the web at
http://salsaboston.com/archive
Over the years and
especially more recently, I have been getting many nice letters from Salseros
out there about the site and the events that we've put on. Many thanks
to all who write, your comments often make all this worthwhile by
themselves. I'm going to post some of your comments, anonymously of
course, since we are a Salsa Community and your thanks deserve to go to many
others as well. Also, I'm sure many people would also like to read
them.
>From a reader:
"I just wanted to take a moment to say
thanks for the Salsa Update. Great information. It's nice to hear that now we
have a Saturday night salsa club (Ekco Lounge) in Boston. Everyone else calls
themselves salsa clubs, but when you arrive there, you primarily hear
merengue/bachata. Of course, I have not visited the Ekco Club yet, but
after seeing the level of dedication that you put into salsa, I trust your
judgement when it comes to salsa. Thank You again.
"Nice salsa boat
cruise last night(July 7, 2002). I had a real nice time. I was hoping to see
"Johnny and Kelly" perform, but I guess that was not part of the plan.[they
were out of town, sorry] Well just the same, it was a great night. Can't wait
till the next cruise on 7/21/02. I have told a few of my friends about the
salsa cruise and have given them a copy of the schedule along w/the phone
number to order the tickets. I have also been telling my friends to log onto
"salsaboston.com." The best salsa site by far. Well Olaf, enough of the
politicking. See you at the next salsa cruise or at Sophia's. Take
care."
Thanks!
Okay... Was anyone NOT THERE last
Wednesday?! For the record, 359 Salseros were at Sophia's, making it by
far the biggest Salsa Party I've ever seen in the tristate area[sic]!
There was great music and dancing going on as always, but the Mojitos on the
roofdeck were the tickets as people were trying to beat the Havana style heat
wave someone imported by accident (really! we told them we only wanted
rum, sugar cane, mint, and limes, but I guess they just threw that in as a
bonus!) Well, despite being a little crowded at times and it was
certainly *sweltering*, it was a heck of a fiesta all around. Tonight
it happens all over again, with "Mojitoville" on the roofdeck opening at
6:30, reduced price tapas until 8.
> .This afternoon...Sunny.
Highs near 80. Northwest winds 15 > to 20 mph. >
.Tonight...Mostly clear. Lows 55 to 60. Northwest winds 10 >
to 15 mph.
Looks like a fabulous evening and NO RED SOX GAME! By
the way, I found out from the attendant that you can park for free at the LAZ
lot behind the Mobile Station, across the street from the Brooks Pharmacy
when they aren't there. No towing. (Please don't park at
McDonalds! $100 and a cab ride to Alston...)
Anyway...
Plenty
more happened this weekend, such as the Salsa Picnic, Sundays on Memorial
Drive and Marc Anthony at Tweeter last Sat. We also opened the "Miami
Club" down in Chinatown, which turned out to be a great night! About 50
people made it out for the opening, check out the pictures at http://salsaboston.com/miamiclub/! The place is gorgeous,
and the dancing is excellent! It's a small club, capacity about 100,
but it looks like it's going to become the next Salsero hotspot! Don't
miss it this Saturday, lessons with Johnny and Kelly at 9pm.
Lastly, the
inaugural harbor cruise set sail last Sunday and was a great time!
Check the photogallery online later today. http://salsaboston.com/cruise Join us for the next
cruise on Sunday July 21.

Q: Why is it $15? A:
Salseros drink an average of about $4 worth of water on a night out.
On a Saturday, that isn't going to do it. A nightclub downtown needs to
take in about $20 per person between cover and drinks in order to be
acceptably profitable on a weekend. Nightclubs are businesses afterall,
so they need to have profit. But think of it this way: around $20 for a full
night of excellent Salsa dancing at a beautiful club in a great location on
a Saturday is a pretty good deal.

(From Mark Fourman) I’m writing to invite you to two Integrated Awareness
workshops coming up in Lexington, MA in the next couple of
weeks.
Relationships: Creating What You Want Saturday July 20
I
expect that there will be plenty of space in this workshop. However, if you
would like to attend, I would appreciate your registering early as it helps
me reduce my anxiety about how many people will be coming to
the workshop!
Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don’t Transforming
Self-Sabotage to Success Sunday July 28
A couple of people have
expressed interest in this topic, so I have added it into my calendar at
short notice. Please note that I will only deliver this workshop if I get a
minimum of five attendees (which is enough to cover the rental cost of the
workshop space), so please let me know if you would like to
attend.
Relationships: Creating What You Want
Saturday July
20, 11 am to 6 PM. Lexington, MA
We all have some consistent patterns of
behaviors and feelings in intimate relationships. Some of these patterns
delight us, while others are the source of dissatisfaction.
Although
we may wish it were different, we actually create our models for adult
intimate relationships when we are quite young. By defining our relationship
with our parent of the opposite gender, and by experiencing and embodying the
patterns of relationship between our parents (and other care givers), we
create a model which makes sense to a toddler, but the implications of which
may not serve us well as adults.
In this workshop you will have the
opportunity to discover and explore the foundations of your own patterns of
relationships, and begin to unravel the grip of your less satisfying
patterns. Whether you are in a committed relationship, dating, or single and
wishing you were dating you will have the opportunity to create a new space
for inviting and creating the type of intimate relationship you
want.
To register, please click on the link below or call me at (617) 319
3820. http://www.mfourman.com
Damned If You Do, Damned If You
Don’t
Transforming Self-Sabotage to Success Sunday July 28, Noon to 7
PM. Lexington, MA
Our persistent patterns of behavior form our experience
of life and ultimately our sense of self. Most of our patterns serve us well,
and do not get much of our attention. Our most frustrating patterns are those
where we want one thing and yet keep doing things that sabotage what we
believe to be success.
These patterns of self-sabotage are caused by
internal conflicts between what we consciously believe we want and other,
conflicting intentions that we do not acknowledge to ourselves or
others.
In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to explore,
through movement and touch, an internal conflict that limits your sense of
satisfaction. You will have the opportunity to create new choices which
integrate your previously conflicting intentions into new behaviors that lead
to an enhanced sense of self and greater
satisfaction
