Well, Congreso recovery continues (a little stint to Miami last weekend to relax didn't hurt...).  I've gotten a lot of nice feedback from people, thanking us for putting it all together, and I just want to particularly pass that on to all the people who volunteered, donated, sponsored, and more.  This was a huge group effort, and I think it went off really well despite some hick-ups.  Boston got a lot of attention this year, and I predict next year is going to be HUGE!

By the way, did you hear? Victor Mannuelle and Orquesta Guayacan at Wonderland this Sunday!  www.latinspectrum.com

Sorry.... back to where I was...

Just to dispel any potential myths for those curious, financially the event was like last year a break even proposition for SalsaBoston, which is perfectly fine--the mission is to build the Salsa community for everyone's benefit, and if we (I say "we" because there's many people involved in all sorts of ways) can figure out how to pay for our time beyond that, well great.  In any case, I think we can all sleep well by calling it a success.

I have gotten some feedback from somewhat disappointed people, especially about Saturday night, and I can't say I disagree with them.  As you may have heard me announce, originally I had understood from the management that we would be able to stay open later than the usual 1am at the Knights of Columbus Hall, but in the middle of the night they sternly informed me that this was not the case.  (Ironically, afterwards they said, next year let's plan it that way... we can stay open to 2:30 even.  Puhleese.)

Anyway, we managed to close at 1:15 though unfortunately the shows went longer that expected, and it was pretty heartbreaking to end the party that was just starting.  We certainly realize that the open dancing was way too limited, and can only offer our apologies.  Also, some of the shows were WAY too long, much longer than I anticipated.  Next year there will be time limits imposed.  But just to explain, the intent this year was to showcase the people in and out of New England who were performing, many who are new, so it would have been inappropriate to cut people.  Of course as the event grows (next year say) and the number of performance groups that want to dance increases, we will have to have auditions of sorts.  Also, there was some question about the repeat performance on account of a music skip, and all I can say about that is that it was done out of courtesy to the group since re-performances are granted sometimes at similar events.  Bottom line, there's a difficult balance to maintain in this "show-biz".

My opinion, Friday was the best!  We'll use that as the model.  Plus, next year we'll try to get someone like Niche on a Satuday and bring down the house!  Till then...
