It's
Wednesday once again, and that means the party is on at An Tua Nua! I ran
by there on Monday, and the place was jammin! Why did I run by?
Well, I was out on a little jog to finish my 26 1/4 at Copley--yeah, I get a few
bragging rights. Not Salsa, but here's my story if you're
interested... www.salsaboston.com/olaf/marathon
So anyway, An Tua
Nua tonight, DJ Antonio "An Tua Nua" Ortiz in da house, no Red Sox Games on Wed.
night until June, so parking's easy. Join us, lessons with Johnny and
Kelly at 9, Casino Rueda Lessons at 8, and now we have a FREE Casino Rueda
practice hour from 7-8 with Jose. Dancing is from 10-1 as usual. All
ages until 10pm, 21+ after. Kitchen is open until 11 if you're hungry for
some good eats! info and discount: www.salsaboston.com/antuanua
Also,
have you been/been back to Vertigo? Last week was the biggest and
liveliest night yet! Tons of photos on the website at
www.saslaboston.com/vertigo.
And, check out West Coast/LA Salsa Congress
volunteer info if you're on a budget. See

Violence at Vertigo: Recently we heard
rumors of street violence that was associated with patrons of Club Vertigo,
people being assaulted with weapons and such. So we looked into it, and in
fact there were some incidents that happened in February before we opened Latin
Fridays. Back then there was a hip-hop night, and in fact the owners of
the place particularly asked us to come in and replace that night with what we
have now, because it was in part a bad crowd. That's exactly what we
did. We don't want to generalize or dismiss hip-hop because we're sure
these incidents were limited to a few individuals, but unfortunately a few can
ruin it for the many. With five weeks behind us now, Latin Fridays is a
happening scene with last week being our biggest night yet. It is a
fabulous crowd, well mannered, well dressed, well behaved, with not one single
incident of violence or anyone being out of hand. We frown on this sort of
behavior and will not tolerate it for that matter, though fortunately it has not
been an issue and we don't expect that it will be. We want to assure
everyone downtown/Quincy Market is a very safe area with many people all
around. When leaving, as always please to use common sense, drive safely,
and avoid escalating any differences that may occur. Thanks to all that
have come and shared in the great times so far and offer our sincere condolences
to any victims of needless street violence associated with the Vertigo in past
eras.

Tua Nua is a great contemporary Irish bar & grill on Beacon Street just
outside of Kenmore Square (only about 3 blocks from Sophia's). In the back
they have a dance club about the same size as the upstairs at Sophia's, with a
sizable dance floor that holds about 150 people, a bar, and plenty of lounge
seating.
Close to the green line (St. Mary's on the C train),
plenty of street and lot parking.
Irish/America/Bar food available until
10pm. I have eaten there, it is tasty and modestly priced.
Note:
they have Karaoke with my man Kev MacDaddy in the front portion of the bar when
you walk in, but don't let that scare you... Salsa is in the back room!
Full Bar. Please check your coat.
