This Friday, May 20, DJ Hernan presents the "Salsa Gala," a special night of Salsa at the beautiful Springstep dance center (Medford Square), featuring "Hector Cuervas and the Boston Latin Band".  Springstep is of course the site of this year's 5th Annual Boston Salsa Congress (TM), coming at you this September.  Gala tickets on sale now at www.salsaboston.com/store, only $10 advance, $15 at the door. Havana Night at Mantra opens this Thursday
------------------------------------------
Mantra, the most gorgeous room in Boston, will be the playground for a unique upscale, international cocktail and dance party with authentic Latin music and dance performances.  Please note: This is not a salsa dance party, and there will be no lesson.

  11pm-2am. 21+. $15. Fashionable Dress (no ripped jeans, t-shirts,
      sneakers, ball caps, sportswear, etc.)
DJ D. Martinez will be the
resident DJ spinning music for our Latin Lounge: a mix of Latin and Latin House.  Special live music and dance performances will spice things up. And Havana Club's Salsa, Latin and Samba Carnaval Dancers will keep the party jumping.


NEW DANCE FLOOR finally coming at An Tua Nua

Yes, you heard right, it's finally happening.  Salsa Wednesdays at An Tua Nua will be open this week, but next week we will be closed for renovations (unless they finish ahead of schedule, stay tuned).  The club owners are putting in a brand new dance floor *for us*, because they really like the Salsa scene and want to keep it there for the long haul. We will also be renovating and redecorating the room, and adding some more cool lighting.
   So, we will tentatively be closed on May 25 (next week), and open again June 1.  On June 8, we will be throwing a GRAND REOPENING BASH to welcome everyone back!  We have some special entertainment lined up for that, but let us know if you would like to perform or otherwise.  In the meantime, see you tomorrow!  www.salsaboston.com/antuanua 7pm FREE Casino Rueda practice 8pm Casino Rueda Lesson 9pm Salsa Lesson with Johnny and Kelly 10pm-1am SALSA! CRUISES begin June 19!  Ticket prices are set!  $15 advance, $17 the week of (the Monday before), and $22 at the dock.  Lessons are $2 still.  The price of fuel has gone way up so we have to pay more for the ship this year, sorry.  But the party is fantastic!  Also, new this year we have a five-cruise discount pass for $60, good on any 5 cruises except July 4 (non-transferrable).  The buffet will be $10 as always, and the afterparty is free.  Call for group rates for parties of 10 or more.  617-513-9841  www.salsaboston.com/cruise

I just recently installed a chatroom on the website, so you can now chat 24-7 with other online salseros.  Link in from the home page, or just surf to www.salsaboston.com/chat.  Note: It uses java, which your browser may ask you to install.  It's been quiet so far, but if you log in, just leave your browser open and we'll get a nice chat community going.  Multiple chat rooms with different topics are set up.

Planning meetings are happening now for the 5th Annual Boston Salsa Congress (TM), Sept 16-18 at Springstep.  We meet every Monday at Green Street Grille, between 9pm and 1am, depending on people's scehedule.  Usually 10pm-11:30.  Just show up, or let us know you're coming.  We need volunteers in all kinds of areas and we have some select paid positions if you need some part time work.

An Tua Nua is a great contemporary Irish bar & grill on Beacon Street just outside of Kenmore Square (only about 3 blocks from Sophia's).  In the back they have a dance club about the same size as the upstairs at Sophia's, with a sizable dance floor that holds about 150 people, a bar, and plenty of lounge seating. 

Close to the green line (St. Mary's on the C train), plenty of street and lot parking.

Irish/America/Bar food available until 10pm.  I have eaten there, it is tasty and modestly priced.

Note: they have Karaoke with my man Kev MacDaddy in the front portion of the bar when you walk in, but don't let that scare you... Salsa is in the back room!  Full Bar.  Please check your coat.

Mantra, located at 52 Temple Place in Boston, has a beautiful
split level space - even larger than the Greek Club - with marble
floors and walls, a soaring 30-foot high ceiling, plush sofas and
lounge areas, club lighting, a state-of-the-art sound system,
capacity for 300 (increases to 500 in June) and a lavish full bar
serving both creative and classic cocktails.

>From 11pm-2am every Thursday, DJ D. Martinez will be the
resident DJ spinning music for our Latin Lounge: a mix of Latin
and Latin House.  Special live music and dance performances
will spice things up. And Havana Club's Salsa, Latin and Samba
Carnaval Dancers will keep the party jumping.

Please note: This is not a salsa dance party, and there will be

for a cool, classy Latin dance club night. I am excited about this
