Got
your July 4th Fireworks/Salsa Harbor Cruise tix? $30 advance, $45 at the
dock if it isn't sold out. Last year it was. Don't wait, tickets are
selling...! Direct ticket link:
www.salsaboston.com/store/agora.cgi?product=CruiseTickets Cruise info:
www.salsaboston.com/cruise 617-513-9841 ** No cruise this Sunday, July
3.
So... last Sunday, we're at the dock getting ready for the cruise and
a huge rainshower dumps on us at about 6:45 as it does about this time every
year, people crammed into the landing, much drinking ensues. Then, right
on queue, at 7pm it stops and lessons commence, weather couldn't be
better. If you weren't there, you missed an awesome cruise! The
highlight, we had our first marriage proposal at a SalsaBoston event!
and... she said "yes"! Congrat's guys! I was moved! Okay, the moral of the
story, don't stay home watching TV if there's any showers forecast for Sunday,
because they are ALWAYS over by the time we leave the dock. We should
know, we've kept track for Five Years!
This Wednesday we'll be at An Tua
Nua as usual, DJ ROB IN THE HOUSE! No baseball Wed. nights again until
September! So come dance on our new floor, lessons at 8 (casino rueda) and
9 (salsa), dance until 1am. www.salsaboston.com/antuanua
Also, Thurdays
this month we've teamed up with Tomas Soto to bring you a mini-salsa
competition. $100 cash prizes each week, plus $500 for the finals!
Club 180, http://tomassoto.com/deme5_testing/THURSDAYS180.html
Check it out. Competition starts at about midnight (yeah, it's a late
scene...!) Contact us for details if you want to compete.
What
else, Vertigo is a happening spot! Friday nights. The salseros are
showing up early, "salsa for gringos" lesson at 9:30, and the salsa has been
going later and later, especially upstairs.

An Tua Nua is a great contemporary Irish bar & grill on
Beacon Street just outside of Kenmore Square (only about 3 blocks from
Sophia's). In the back they have a dance club about the same size as the
upstairs at Sophia's, with a sizable dance floor that holds about 150 people, a
bar, and plenty of lounge seating.
Close to the green line (St.
Mary's on the C train), plenty of street and lot
parking.
Irish/America/Bar food available until 10pm. I have eaten
there, it is tasty and modestly priced.
Note: they have Karaoke with my
man Kev MacDaddy in the front portion of the bar when you walk in, but don't let
that scare you... Salsa is in the back room! Full Bar. Please check
your coat.

******************************************************************* 6) Salsa
dancing is hot, Hot, HOT! And Cuban Style Salsa (also known as Casino Style
Salsa) is the SPICIEST of them all!
The term "despelote" was coined by
Elio Revé. To excite the audience and warm up the atmosphere, he would shout
"¡Tremendo despelote!" during a drum jam. "Despelote" essentially means "letting
it all out".
Learn Cuban (Casino) Style salsa moves in the "son" (closed
position) and "guapea" (open position). Practice techniques for being a
"follower" or a "leader" in a relaxed "no pressure" atmosphere. Become a
true salsero as you dance casino and despelote to the new Cuban salsa fusion
music: Timba. Have fun, meet new people, and let it all
out!
Classes are held at:
"The Karate Center" 75 Webster
Street, Worcester MA and through the "Night Life" program of Worcester
Public Schools. Phone:
