A
tremendous number of tickets have been sold already for the Salsa cruise this
Sunday, so if you've been waiting to come to one, this is going to be a
particularly good one! Weather looks perfect too. The cruises are
also ALL AGES so those younger dancers with no place to go, and kids/families
are welcome. www.salsaboston.com/cruise or call 617-513-9841. As a new
added bonus, the buffet is now catered by El Oriental de Cuba in JP, SIMPLY
AMAZING food. Afterparty at Vertigo. See you
there!
SALSA @ AN TUA NUA tonight. Last week's party was
jamming! We are very excited to finally have gotten the management to fix
the place up since we moved there in December, and want to welcome back may of
the Salseros we haven't seen in a while. Boston's original "All Salsa
night by Salseros for Salseros", and now the only place that features free
watermellon each week courtesy of my man Pepe! Lessons as usual, dancing
until 1am. Unfortunately for the moment it is 21+ all night again, but
we're working on that. www.salsaboston.com/antuanua
and... Last
week for Boston Salsa Congress discount passes, only $140 for the whole
weekend!!

shopping, and sheer Salsa maddness. After that, prices jump up to $180 for
the weekend, and go up to $225 at the door.

is easy online and you can simply buy your pass in the store.
Even though
all the fine details aren't together yet, if you're planning to come at all (and
keep in mind if you're a Salsero at all you know you probably will come anyway
even if you aren't planning on it yet), save yourself a bundle and get your
event pass now. Day passes and other assorted tickets will go on sale in a
few weeks. Last year's event was lauded by numerous invited Salsa stars
as, "One of the best/most fun congress we've ever been to," so don't miss this
fantastic weekend. The website is together, and the tentative list of
talent and schedule is up. www.salsaboston.com/congress Vendors,

An Tua Nua is a great contemporary Irish bar & grill on
Beacon Street just outside of Kenmore Square (only about 3 blocks from
Sophia's). In the back they have a dance club about the same size as the
upstairs at Sophia's, with a sizable dance floor that holds about 150 people, a
bar, and plenty of lounge seating.
Close to the green line (St.
Mary's on the C train), plenty of street and lot
parking.
Irish/America/Bar food available until 10pm. I have eaten
there, it is tasty and modestly priced.
Note: they have Karaoke with my
man Kev MacDaddy in the front portion of the bar when you walk in, but don't let
that scare you... Salsa is in the back room! Full Bar. Please check
your coat.

As a trained track athelete, professional African and jazz
drummer, and lifelong dancer (many styles), I focus on the one essential and
three required elements to keeping salsa for life. The one essential is
having fun. I teach with a lot of fun and laughter. We can always be
serious - sometimes a little humor goes a long way. The three required
elements are: programming the muscles to handle the basic movements;
establishing the relationship between the movement and the music; and addressing
the finer points of styling, partnering, footwork, and patterns. I have
taught thousands to dance salsa. I enjoy every minute of
it!
Teaching on the Northshore: Mondays (8:30-9:30 PM Beginners) -
Susan Woods Dancenter of Stoneham Tuesdays (7:15 PM Beginners, 8:15 PM
Intermediate) - Yoga for Health, Gloucester Thursdays (7:30-8:30 PM Beginngers)
- Manchester Athletic Club, Manchester Fridays (7:00-8:30 PM Beginners) -
Marblehead Privates and Events Scheduled in Advanced by
Appointment.
Thanks for your help and
support.

This
message is about fantastic music, more specifically, fantastic Latin/African
music, including our beloved salsa. My LA-bound, Congo-born, friend Ricardo
Lemvo is going to perform at the Lowell Folk Festival on July 30 and
31.
I imagine that if you don't know him, you would like to, and this
might be a good opportunity.
There will be a bunch of other performances,
crafts, and ethnic foods at the Festival.
From his bio: Ricardo Lemvo
has established himself as a pioneer with his innovative music, combining Latin
and African elements from salsa to soukous with an occasional merengue or
Afro-Portuguese excursion. This Congo-born artist is the embodiment of the
Afro-Latin Diaspora which connects back to Mother Africa via the Cuban clave
rhythm. Lemvo is truly multi-cultural and equally at home singing in English,
French, Spanish, Portuguese, Lingala, and Kikongo.
