Subject: #263: Party at ATN tonight, New Salsa for Gringos classes at
Masa

Hola Salseros!

"Salsa for Gringos" is back! "Level 0" Beginner lessons at Masa Restaurant, 8:30-9:45 $5 for lesson, no cover after for the latin night. 439 Tremont St. in the South End. If you're a total beginner or you have some friends that just won't quite come out yet, this is the place to start.

We're glad to see so many people have registered for the Congress with the early-bird special, which expired Monday unfortunately. It's going to be a fabulous weekend! For those that missed the discount, we will be hosting various "special discount nights" around Boston over the next 6 weeks where we do promotions (if you'd like us to do one at your event, let us know). For example, tonight at An Tua Nua, you will be able to register for $160, but you have to give us a check or charge # there. Other event tickets go on sale this week in the store. For all the Congress info, visit www.salsaboston.com/congress or call 617-513-9841. A lot of exciting stuff is coming together which you'll here more about in the coming weeks, and we have a great crew of volunteers. If you want to volunteer still, let us know. There is a volunteer/brunch event tentatively this coming Sunday.

CRUISES! Last week was awesome! Close to 300 people on board. Join us again this Sunday. As an aside, you might have heard that El Oriental was firebombed last Monday by some thug, just as we were raving about the amazing food. For the time being we are getting the food now from Miami Restaurant, very good too. I spoke with Nobel, the owner of El Oriental, and told him how shocked we all were and he assured me that they will be rebuilding and open again in a few months. We wish him out heartfelt support. Stay tuned for the reopening.

Cruises are ALL AGES. www.salsaboston.com/cruise Free afterparty now at ClubQ

And of course the SALSA Party @ AN TUA NUA still is getting bigger each week www.salsaboston.com/antuanua

See you on the dance floor!

Day passes and other assorted tickets will go on sale in a few weeks. Last year's event was lauded by numerous invited Salsa stars as, "One of the best/most fun congress we've ever been to," so don't miss this fantastic weekend. An Tua Nua is a great contemporary Irish bar & grill on Beacon Street just outside of Kenmore Square (only about 3 blocks from Sophia's). In the back they have a dance club about the same size as the upstairs at Sophia's, with a sizable dance floor that holds about 150 people, a bar, and plenty of lounge seating.

Close to the green line (St. Mary's on the C train), plenty of street and lot parking.

Irish/America/Bar food available until 10pm. I have eaten there, it is tasty and modestly priced.

Note: they have Karaoke with my man Kev MacDaddy in the front portion of the bar when you walk in, but don't let that scare you... Salsa is in the back room! Full Bar. Please check your coat.

Queridos Fanaticos,

I want to let you know that Balaton (my band) will be playing at Ryles upstairs on Friday July 29 from 10- 12:30. For those of you who came to see us last time at Ryles, I want to let you know that all the sound issues we had, have been resolved. We will have a wonderful sound so you can enjoy us better. Also for those of you whom I've encountered recently on my musical escapades in the streets of Harvard Square; gracias for the support. Weather permit, I play in the streets of Harvard Square every day except Mondays and Wednesdays; come and get serenaded between the brick and the Cambridge sky.

There will be no Latin Night on July 29th at Zuzu. I wont be at Merengue that same evening.

This message is about fantastic music, more specifically, fantastic Latin/African music, including our beloved salsa. My LA-bound, Congo-born, friend Ricardo Lemvo is going to perform at the Lowell Folk Festival on July 30 and 31.

I imagine that if you don't know him, you would like to, and this might be a good opportunity.

There will be a bunch of other performances, crafts, and ethnic foods at the Festival.

From his bio:
Ricardo Lemvo has established himself as a pioneer with his innovative music, combining Latin and African elements from salsa to soukous with an occasional merengue or Afro-Portuguese excursion. This Congo-born artist is the embodiment of the Afro-Latin Diaspora which connects back to Mother Africa via the Cuban clave rhythm. Lemvo is truly multi-cultural and equally at home singing in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Lingala, and Kikongo.
