Hola Salseros!

Well, to start, the Salsa party continues tonight at An Tua Nua!  I hope you have some left after New Years, because about 170 salseros showed up last Wednesday and rocked the house!  Check it out tonight: www.salsaboston.com/antuanua

A New Thursday!  North Shore:  Fellow Salsero Greg Coles has opened a new Thursday night at Strega Restaurant in Salem.  See mailbag for those details.

Also, our highly anticipate upcoming Saturday Salsa night plans downtown are, grumble, delayed a couple weeks due to renovation scheduling, so we're looking at Feb. 4 for that grand opening right now.  Also, Feb. 11 we'll be throwing the Valentine's Salsa Party with music & party meister Senor Edwin Pabon either there or at the Hyatt, TBA!  Mark your calendar.

Next Saturday in the meantime, Jan. 14th, is the benefit party for Masacote's musical ventures at Spontaneous Celebrations.  See mailbag for details.  There is a raffle for an all expense paid cruise going on, so don't miss making a donation with a perk.

Also, Salsero and Gentlemen Ceasar Villalobos' highly acclaimed Peruvian band "Inca Son" is presenting their anniversary concert this Saturday.  See mailbag.

Okay, that's all for now.  May everyone's 2006 kickoff be exceptionally merry and clave-filled!  See you tonight.

Humbly,
-Olaf

* Have you checked out Masa?  If you're up for a casual night and some dining and an upscale bar, this place is cool on Thursdays.  Casual lesson around 10pm, a mix of music, no cover.  439 Trement St, South End, Boston

* If you missed the Congress or if you enjoyed it but didn't make it to the congress shop, the DVD will be out by mid November at the latest and probably sooner, and also Congress embroidered shirts (mens and ladies), caps, and hand towels are available.  We still have a lot of things to pay for this year, so every purchase helps out.  Shirts and the video are $20 each, and the caps and towels $10.  Buy any two and you get $5 off, so the video and a shirt would be $35. www.salsaboston.com/congress/shop

An Tua Nua is a great contemporary Irish bar & grill on Beacon Street just outside of Kenmore Square (only about 3 blocks from Sophia's).  In the back they have a dance club about the same size as the upstairs at Sophia's, with a sizable dance floor that holds about 150 people, a bar, and plenty of lounge seating.

Close to the green line (St. Mary's on the C train, Fenway on the D, Kenmore on the B), plenty of street and lot parking.

Irish/America/Bar food available until 10pm.  I have eaten there regularly, it is very tasty and modestly priced.

Note: they have Karaoke with my man Kev-Mac Daddy in the front portion of the bar when you walk in, but don't let that scare you... Salsa is in the back room!  Full Bar.  Please check your coat.

After teaching on the north shore for a number of years, I am ready to get going with a regular weekly Latin Dance Party.  The north shore has been ready and enthusiastic about salsa but until now has been unable to find a suitable venue for a weekly Latin Dance Party.  Of course, there are those who have working on the north shore for years. Paula, Trica and Roberto have given us plenty to feel proud about.  We have Fiesta de Baile and will continue to promote that.

Still, we want more Latin Dance.  And, now, we have it.  That is where we need your help.

Introducing the Thursday Night Latin Dance Party at Strega Restaurant - this is the first ever major regular night of dancing on the North Shore for salseros and lovers of Latin Music.  Strega is a unique restaurant that specializes in fun, great drinks and delicious food.  It is a perfect match for what so many ont the north shore have mentioned they wanted in a north shore night out.  When you get a chance, check out their website at www.stregasalem.com.  This is beautiful place and a great spot for us who love ambience, awesome music and a fun time.  Thanks to everyone who volunteered to pass the word along.  The focus is really the north shore market as there are many Boston and Boston South alternatives.  But, of course, we need your spirit, support and enthusiasm to get us started.

The cover charge is $15.  All instructors will be on the guest list.  That means that you and one person you bring will be comped.  Let Linda (Strega's Owner/Manager at 978-741-0004) and me (617-620-3022) know if you would like to book a small party dinner reservation beforehand.  Martha and I would like to join if you do.  I believe that due to our night's requirements the last reservation taken is 7:30 or 8:00 PM.  Please tell everyone you know who might be interested in this regular event.  While the capacity is just 150 people, I think there is a possibility we may easily hit that on the first day.  A strong showing from all who will be in town will be fun and important.

Please let me know what questions or comments you have.

That's all, for now.

Happy Holidays and Much Love,
Greg
