An Tua Nua is a great
contemporary Irish bar & grill on Beacon Street just outside of Kenmore
Square (only about 3 blocks from Sophia's). In the back they have a dance
club about the same size as the upstairs at Sophia's, with a sizable dance floor
that holds about 150 people, a bar, and plenty of lounge seating.
Close
to the green line (St. Mary's on the C train, Fenway on the D, Kenmore on the
B), plenty of street and lot parking.
Irish/America/Bar food available
until 10pm. I have eaten there regularly, it is very tasty and modestly
priced.
Note: they have Karaoke with my man Kev-Mac Daddy in the front
portion of the bar when you walk in, but don't let that scare you... Salsa is in
the back room! Full Bar. Please check your coat.

******************************************************************* 2) "Salsa
for Gringos" Series begins this TUESDAY!
"The ideal class for people with
two left feet, and of course a great way to meet new people!"
Olaf Bleck
(MIT '89, founder of SalsaBoston.com), in conjunction with MIT Salsa Club, is
teaching a special two-part "Salsa for Gringos" series, a unique, fun, and
down-to-earth approach to learning salsa dancing.
These lessons are
geared towards new dancers wishing to learn enough of the basics to confidently
hit the dance floor. For more experienced dancers they are also great for
refining some fundamentals and breaking down "how it works" more
comprehensively.
There will be two sessions of two classes each, level 0
and level 1. It is recommended that you attend both a level 0 and level 1
class, and repeating them is also helpful.
All classes are
7pm-9pm First Session: Tuesday, January 9: Student Center Room 409 - Level
0 Thursday, January 11: Student Center Room 491 - Level 1
Second
Session: Thursday, January 18: Student Center 491 - Level 0 Tuesday,
January 30: Morss Hall - Level 1
CLASSES ARE FREE no partner
needed dress comfortably & avoid rubber-soled shoes.

FELIZ
ANO NUEVO, salseros y salseras! The start of the New Year means.. Johnny
and Kelly’s winter session is also starting. (Did YOUR new year’s resolution
involve salsa?!)
Learn sexy salsa moves, turn patterns and funky
freestyle footwork. Practice your body movement, isolations, and
styling. Weekly studio classes offered at three levels—Beginner, Advanced
Beginner and Intermediate/Advanced.
Body Mechanics and Styling for
Ladies—the new weekly class will be starting a little later in January.
Learn to dance fluidly and gracefully, moving your shoulders, ribcage, arms, and
hips harmoniously. Incorporate these basic movements into your styling and
build on them.
And, Johnny & Kelly’s monthly salsa workshops are
continuing! Specialty workshops are a great way to refine your dancing by
concentrating on different aspects of the dance and music. Each month, we
teach a 1 1/2-hour workshop on a specific topic.
The January salsa
workshop will be Rhythm and Timing, Part II. We have received such
positive feedback from our December workshop on Rhythm and Timing, that we will
be offering Part II this month! We will have LIVE music in the studio to
help us gain a better understanding of the percussion rhythms that make us
move!
Stay tuned for details about the Body
Mechanics class and the January salsa workshop, Rhythm and Timing, Part
II.

Dear
Friends of the Dance, As the autumn season wanes and winter approaches, we at
the North Shore Civic Ballet would like you to remember that spring is on the
horizon. Our biggest and most successful fundraising event, the 8th Annual
Fiesta de Baile and Silent Auction, has been scheduled for March 24, 2007 at the
Nahant Country Club with its fantastic dance floor. Beginning at 9:00pm with a
complimentary salsa lesson from professional dancers, the evening is sure to be
a lively tribute to the Latin art form. DJ Antonio Ortiz will once again provide
us with the authentic sound until 1:00pm. Hors d’oeuvres are included with
admission and a cash bar is available throughout the evening. The silent
auction, an important part of the event, promises a wonderful array of eclectic
items and services, catering to all ages, dancers or spectators. The many
wonderful gift donations provide us with the opportunity to raise funds for the
NSCB, and in these lean times, they are very necessary for the continued
operations of the school. As a previous contributor to our organization, we urge
you to save the date in your 2007 calendar, put on your dancing shoes, and open
your pocketbook to us.
The enclosed forms have donation level
descriptions for table reservations and we hope you are feeling expansive. You
may order tickets early at a discounted rate of $30.00 each, as we will charge
$35.00 on the night of the Event. We encourage you to plan early to reserve
tables since seating is limited at the country club. Donations to the NSCB of
any amount are always welcome at any time.
Thank you in advance for your
support of the arts and of the dance experience. In this stressful world, we are
reminded of how grateful we are to live in a place that allows us to move and
dance freely. Happy Holidays to you and to all the special people in your
life. Yours truly, Paula K. Shiff
And the Fiesta
Committee
