An Tua Nua is a great
contemporary Irish bar & grill on Beacon Street just outside of Kenmore
Square (only about 3 blocks from Sophia's). In the back they have a dance
club about the same size as the upstairs at Sophia's, with a sizable dance floor
that holds about 150 people, a bar, and plenty of lounge seating.
Close
to the green line (St. Mary's on the C train, Fenway on the D, Kenmore on the
B), plenty of street and lot parking.
Irish/America/Bar food available
until 10pm. I have eaten there regularly, it is very tasty and modestly
priced.
Note: they have Karaoke with my man Kev-Mac Daddy in the front
portion of the bar when you walk in, but don't let that scare you... Salsa is in
the back room! Full Bar. Please check your coat.

******************************************************************* 2) "Salsa
for Gringos" Series begins this TUESDAY!
"The ideal class for people with
two left feet, and of course a great way to meet new people!"
Olaf Bleck
(MIT '89, founder of SalsaBoston.com), in conjunction with MIT Salsa Club, is
teaching a special two-part "Salsa for Gringos" series, a unique, fun, and
down-to-earth approach to learning salsa dancing.
These lessons are
geared towards new dancers wishing to learn enough of the basics to confidently
hit the dance floor. For more experienced dancers they are also great for
refining some fundamentals and breaking down "how it works" more
comprehensively.
There will be two sessions of two classes each, level 0
and level 1. It is recommended that you attend both a level 0 and level 1
class, and repeating them is also helpful.
All classes are
7pm-9pm Second Session: Thursday, January 18: Student Center 491 - Level
0 Tuesday, January 30: Morss Hall - Level 1
CLASSES ARE FREE no
partner needed dress comfortably & avoid rubber-soled

Mexico Valentines Day / Carnaval Tour 12 nights:
February 13-25
This is a singles tour for a maximum of eight women.
We will dedicate ourselves to exploring the ways in which the people of Quintana
Roo, Yucatán, and Campeche celebrate life during this time of parties.
Mexico will share with you the ways of carnaval through the regional
dances, music, food, and parades. During this Mexican equivalent of Mardi
Gras, you’ll pamper your body and mind with dance, music and Spanish lessons; as
well as a variety of physical activities; including swimming, yoga, and
absolute relaxation.
Your hot Valentine’s Day celebration
starts with three days in a tropical paradise, along the Riviera Maya. Next,
you’ll move to a beautiful colonial city in the Yucatán, to start the carnaval
celebrations. Then you’ll be driven to Campeche, where you’ll celebrate,
with the locals, the country’s oldest carnaval. You’ll then go on to explore the
Mayan ruins of the area. Along the way, you’ll get to watch the various festival
styles of dance and practice some of the traditional celebratory dances. After
visiting a tropical island, you’ll end your trip along the Caribbean beaches of
Quintana Roo, where you can immerse yourself in the region’s Cuban music, and
dance salsa: a la Cubana!
$1,659 includes: (per person, based on double
occupancy) Lodging: Your 12 nights of lodging will vary from small ecological
hotels, to beautiful colonial and beachfront property. All hotels are
strategically located for you to enjoy deluxe comfort while being close to the
local way of life. Meals: All breakfasts, two Mexican lunches,
one fine Mexican dinner, and one Cuban dinner are included. Dining will be one
of the highlights and we’ll give you the best choices to sample the varied local
cuisine. Activities: Included in your adventure will be folk and salsa dance
classes, a Spanish class, yoga class, massage session, and your entrance fees to
Maya ruin sites and to a cenote (Mayan pool). Fully Escorted: This special
celebration will be personally guided by our founder, Lena, who has traveled and
danced in this area for decades. Her insider knowledge will provide you a
unique chance to enter the inner circle of life in this area.
Transportation: Local transportation will be provided by van with
local driver and island ferry. All gratuities for driver and tolls are also
included.
Not included: airfare, travel insurance (highly
recommended), airport taxes, hotel staff gratuities, alcoholic beverages, some
meals, dance club covers (optional outings), extra spa services, and special
request costs

Dear
Friends of the Dance, As the autumn season wanes and winter approaches, we at
the North Shore Civic Ballet would like you to remember that spring is on the
horizon. Our biggest and most successful fundraising event, the 8th Annual
Fiesta de Baile and Silent Auction, has been scheduled for March 24, 2007 at the
Nahant Country Club with its fantastic dance floor. Beginning at 9:00pm with a
complimentary salsa lesson from professional dancers, the evening is sure to be
a lively tribute to the Latin art form. DJ Antonio Ortiz will once again provide
us with the authentic sound until 1:00pm. Hors d’oeuvres are included with
admission and a cash bar is available throughout the evening. The silent
auction, an important part of the event, promises a wonderful array of eclectic
items and services, catering to all ages, dancers or spectators. The many
wonderful gift donations provide us with the opportunity to raise funds for the
NSCB, and in these lean times, they are very necessary for the continued
operations of the school. As a previous contributor to our organization, we urge
you to save the date in your 2007 calendar, put on your dancing shoes, and open
your pocketbook to us.
The enclosed forms have donation level
descriptions for table reservations and we hope you are feeling expansive. You
may order tickets early at a discounted rate of $30.00 each, as we will charge
$35.00 on the night of the Event. We encourage you to plan early to reserve
tables since seating is limited at the country club. Donations to the NSCB of
any amount are always welcome at any time.
Thank you in advance for your
support of the arts and of the dance experience. In this stressful world, we are
reminded of how grateful we are to live in a place that allows us to move and
dance freely. Happy Holidays to you and to all the special people in your
life. Yours truly, Paula K. Shiff
And the Fiesta
Committee
