An Tua Nua is a great contemporary Irish bar & grill on Beacon Street just outside of Kenmore Square (only about 3 blocks from Sophia's).  In the back they have a dance club about the same size as the upstairs at Sophia's, with a sizable dance floor that holds about 150 people, a bar, and plenty of lounge seating.

Close to the green line (St. Mary's on the C train, Fenway on the D, Kenmore on the B), plenty of street and lot parking.

Irish/America/Bar food available until 10pm.  I have eaten there regularly, it is very tasty and modestly priced.

Note: they have Karaoke with my man Kev-Mac Daddy in the front portion of the bar when you walk in, but don't let that scare you... Salsa is in the back room!  Full Bar.  Please check your coat.

From Masacote:

We will be performing our newest company choreography entitled "5 Beat Mambo" on Wednesday, February 21st at An Tua Nua.  The choreography has been in the works for 5 months and will be performed at the end of the month in Atlanta.  We're excited to debut it first for our Boston Salsa family.  The piece is performed to one of Joel's songs from his album "MASACOTE".

Information on the choreography:

Name of Choreography:  5 Beat Mambo
Choreographed by:  Ana and Joel Massicot
Song: "5 Beat Mambo"
Artist: Joel "Masacote" Massicot
Masacote Dance Company Members Performing:
        -- Ana Tinajero-Massicot
        -- Joel Massicot
        -- Samantha Fernandez
        -- Jason Lawrence
        -- Sheila Chen
        -- Esteban Ortiz
Description:
In 2003, Ana and Joel broke new barriers in salsa dancing when they choreographed to "Take Five", a jazz piece written by Dave Brubeck in 5/4 timing.  In 2006, Masacote broke new ground, becoming the first and only group to perform and choreograph to music created by them and for them with Joel's new Latin Jazz album "MASACOTE".

In this album, Joel wrote a Mambo in 5/4 timing after being inspired musically by "Take Five".  Today, Masacote will perform to "5 Beat Mambo", a new age of salsa/mambo and an invitation to others to venture into unchartered territory.

Boston, MA – La Casa de la Cultura/Center for Latino Arts announces EL BEMBÉ, Boston’s celebrated Latin music and dance party. EL BEMBÉ has become a fixture in the Salsa movement in Boston since 1999. Starting this Spring, EL BEMBÉ will change it’s format to offer a more diverse and multi-cultural experience.  Instead of focusing exclusively on Salsa and Merengue music and dance, this production will be dedicated to providing a wider cultural scope to the music and dance of Latin America while allowing for an increase in cross-cultural experiences for dancers, artists and music lovers.  EL BEMBÉ  COLOMBIANO will offer a unique opportunity for dancers to learn new dance steps and enjoy new musical styles including Cumbia, Vallenato, and more.  The DJ Carlos Guillén-“Disco Moreno” will spin Colombian dance music as well as Salsa and Merengue favorites so the evening will have a great variety in music.  EL BEMBÉ COLOMBIANO will also feature a live band performing a variety of Colombian musical styles to add to this unique cultural experience.

EL BEMBÉ caters to a diverse audience ranging from Latin music and dance enthusiasts to professional and advanced dancers to Latin dance beginners. EL BEMBÉ’s friendly atmosphere is both inviting and engaging, characterized by a contagiously festive spirit. Perhaps the most unique characteristic of EL BEMBÉ is that all proceeds from the event are re-invested in the CLA’s arts programs therefore, patrons not only enjoy a unique celebration but they also contribute to the cultural life of the city of Boston.

Upcoming EL BEMBÉ productions:
