Hola Salseros!

Headline Salsa "Stuff"

See you at An Tua Nua Tonight!

Welcome, welcome, 2009!!!

I for one am officially writing off 2008 a "bad year", and thus I'm genuinely excited for this new one, in ways I can't begin to list. Lots of new stuff is happening here at SalsaBoston HQ, and 2009 promises to be a great new era!

A quick thumbs up on one item: SALSA BOOTCAMP plus STYLING WORKSHOP! This Weekend with Edie the Salsa Freak, one of the "original" Salsa Dance Greats, co-founder of Salsaweb.com, a truly inspiring person, and great friend & colleague of mine for 10+ years. Presented by Masacote and Metamovements. See mailbag for that!

To touch on some things we're working on:

- We've partnered with Havana Saturdays at JHCC, to bring you Boston's hottest Salsa/Latin/Live music party each week, in what's always been one of my favorite venues.

- Feb. 7, we're debuting a new venue with Lena Dance Company's Social Dance, at Brookline Tai Chi, a superb dance hall in Washington Square/Brookline (Beacon St. outbound from Coolidge Corner). We may launch a series of socials there following.

- We're working with An Tua Nua's management to get some much needed upgrades to the place finished.

- SalsaBoston Instructor Field Trip Program: Instructors, get paid to bring your new students to some dances! It's a program we invented some time ago, and we're now finally implementing it. (Instructors, email us for details.)

- Salsa Thursdays, relaunch at City Club, or possibly another great new venue we've discovered.

- We're teaching lessons at a bunch of new places, and bringing in lots of fun new people into the scene. If you're interested in teaching beginner Salsa lessons with us as part of a program, drop me a line.

- We're expanding! If you're interested in a marketing internship, drop us a line. We don't have any formal description, but we need people!

- We have a whole host of invitations from various venues and events to help out their nights, and look forward to being able to do that.

- Plus a whole lot more!

(to "drop us a line," email olaf@salsaboston.com

An Tua Nua is a great contemporary Irish bar & grill on Beacon Street just outside of Kenmore Square (only about 3 blocks from Sophia's). In the back they have a dance club about the same size as the upstairs at Sophia's, with a sizable dance floor that holds about 150 people, a bar, and plenty of lounge seating.

Close to the green line (St. Mary's on the C train, Fenway on the D, Kenmore on the B), plenty of street and lot parking.

Irish/America/Bar food available until 10pm. I have eaten there regularly, it is very tasty and modestly priced.

Note: they have Karaoke with my man Kev-Mac Daddy in the front portion of the bar when you walk in, but don't let that scare you... Salsa is in the back room! Full Bar. Please check your coat.
