An Tua Nua is a great contemporary Irish bar & grill on Beacon Street just outside of Kenmore Square (only about 3 blocks from Sophia's). In the back they have a dance club about the same size as the upstairs at Sophia's, with a sizable dance floor that holds about 150 people, a bar, and plenty of lounge seating.
Close to the green line (St. Mary's on the C train, Fenway on the D, Kenmore on the B), plenty of street and lot parking.
Irish/America/Bar food available until 10pm. I have eaten there regularly, it is very tasty and modestly priced.
Note: they have Karaoke with my man Kev-Mac Daddy in the front portion of the bar when you walk in, but don't let that scare you... Salsa is in the back room! Full Bar. Please check your coat.

Boston Salsa Congress April 3-5 |
|
Check out the "Honorees" link and lo and behold, I'm being honored. Thanks Choco!
Click on the banner for all the details on the Congress.
Historical Note: This event is organized by some folks from New York (who remain nameless here) who used to teach in Boston, ran some dances, and through a series of actions arguably were the original instigators of "Boston Salsa Politics" that still exist today. This event was originally called the "Boston _International_ Salsa Congress", since SalsaBoston already organized a "Boston Salsa Congress". However, the New York folks changed their name in a move characteristic of their conflict-generating ways, and for a while there were two Boston Salsa Congresses, our 5th Annual one having been held in the fall of 2005. However, we stopped doing these events, and thus the New York based Boston Salsa Congress caught up in the annual count so that we're now having the 2nd 5th Annual Boston Salsa Congress.
Confused? Hah! Don't care? Even better.
Anyway, a great fellow named "Choco", who is the man behind the On2 and On1 t-shirt line and a supporter for years of the SalsaBoston congresses, is now co-director of the New York based Boston congress, and in a nice gesture selected me as an honoree. I'm not about tooting my own horn, but again, I'm flattered.
Enjoy!
P.S. I haven't heard from the other two organizers. |

Eastie Festivity: Political fundaiser: Salsa & More for E. Boston |

SUBJECT: Swing, Salsa & Tango at Logan’s Airport Hilton, Mar 22, 2009 from 2-5 pm
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Swing, Salsa & Tango at Logan’s Airport Hilton Mar 22, 2009 from 2-5 pm
EAST BOSTON, MA – Mar 9, 2009 – East Boston, Mass. area residents will celebrate the first Sunday of spring at “Eastie Festivity” – a dance at the Hilton Boston Logan Airport on Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Tickets are $20 at the door or $15 in advance (online at www.eastiefestivity.com or at Angela’s Café, 131 Lexington St, East Boston). Admission includes free lessons and validated parking. No dance partner is required.
“Swing dancing got started during the Depression in the 1930s,” said Pj Schott, Eastie Festivity’s organizer. “Salsa and tango are now enjoyed all over the world. This inspired me to combine the purely American style of swing with the dances of other cultures to bring together people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate our many blessings. What better way to escape the current economic crisis?”
World-renowned dance performers/instructors at Eastie Festivity include Elizabeth Miller (swing), Salsa Y Control (salsa), Fernanda Cajide and Uche Amaechi (Argentine tango), with music by DJ Rob Suave and the All-Star Swing DJs, and a special appearance by children from Sindrome Down Folklore Latino.
All proceeds from Eastie Festivity go to support Boston City Councilor and Arts, Film, Humanities and Tourism Committee Member, Sal LaMattina.
For more information on the Eastie Festivity program and performers, phone Pj Schott at (617) 834-9876.
