Ah, the tax man has cometh and goneth! Huge refunds for everyone I hope! (Sorry, just an aside...) Did you make it to Caribe last Thursday for the apre-Congress party? The show featured a roaring Jack & Jill Competition, Lena Dance Co doing a smoking routine, and was highlighted by Rumba Y Timbal who did an absolutely phenomenal show in, uh, "most unusual circumstances"! (Ask them about it... the crowd went nuts!) You guys are amazing. Anyway, thanks to all who helped make it a spectacular night!
Of course the fun continues at Caribe tonight with DJ Hernan, and 2-for-1 "Bring a Friend for Free" admission! Scroll down.
The other hot feature this week is on Saturday: SalsaBoston and Havana Club, with Javier Arroyo bring you a special CD Release Party featuring his "Salsa Night Band's" new release, "La Cadena se Rompio". The place will be jumpin' as the band is bringing in their following, so it will be the place to be! Expect plenty of overflow dancing on the balcony (if you've never danced up there try it some time!). Salsa Night Band is definitely one of the tightest and most dancable Salsa bands in the area and are great supporters of the dance scene, so please come support them as well.

An Tua Nua is a great contemporary Irish bar & grill on Beacon Street just outside of Kenmore Square (only about 3 blocks from Sophia's). In the back they have a dance club about the same size as the upstairs at Sophia's, with a sizable dance floor that holds about 150 people, a bar, and plenty of lounge seating.
Close to the green line (St. Mary's on the C train, Fenway on the D, Kenmore on the B), plenty of street and lot parking.
Irish/America/Bar food available until 10pm. I have eaten there regularly, it is very tasty and modestly priced.
Note: they have Karaoke with my man Kev-Mac Daddy in the front portion of the bar when you walk in, but don't let that scare you... Salsa is in the back room! Full Bar. Please check your coat.

Welcome to Club Caribé, Boston's newest upscale Salsa/Latin hotspot! Resident DJ's Hernan and D. Martinez are in the house spinning the best of Salsa, plus frequent special night and promotions. The party is hopping! If you hadn't heard already, something like 400-450 people made it to the opening, and we've been going strong ever since.

News from Havana Club:
And this Saturday, Havana Saturdays Live is back in the South End with the Cinco Son (plus one) band. They've responded well to the feedback about playing shorter songs- and have been playing five and six minute renditions of their trademark powerful classic salsa, merengue and cha cha songs. Come join us for a great evening of salsa dancing with one of Boston's most talented latin bands.
Also, this Saturday we'll do beginner lessons from 9-9:45 and intermediate lessons from 9:45-10:30. That'll give beginners a chance to either challenge themselves after the first lesson or an opportunity to have a drink on the beautiful balcony and take a break before the show.

5-Week Beginner Level Salsa Foundation Workshop
If you want to develop a solid foundation so you have more confidence in your social dancing, come to our Beginner Level Salsa Foundation Workshop. This workshop is for committed beginner and advanced beginner students and who want to focus on the foundation elements used in social Salsa dancing. We will teach you the core steps that are the base for many of the combinations out there, with some styling by introducing body movement and isolation (hips, rib cage, shoulders and arms). We will also be working on some spins, some basic footwork shines, an introduction to ladies' and men's styling, and basic combinations with styling. No partner necessary, no drop-ins allowed.
Session: April 19th, 26th, May 3rd, 10th, and 17th

Time: 2:00pm - 4:00pm

8-Week Salsa Intensive Training Level II Workshop
Held in Two Four-week Sessions
Our Level II Salsa Intensive Training Workshop builds on the foundation from Level 1. This workshop is for committed advanced beginner and intermediate students and salsa dancers who want to get into more detail on styling and body isolation. We will focus more deeply on how to dance with your whole body, with styling. As in Level I, we will also be working on different spin styles, fancy footwork, ladies' and men's styling, and combinations with styling. No partner necessary, no drop-ins allowed.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level 1 Salsa Intensive Training Workshop or permission from Director Hedwige J. Louis.
First session: April 26th, May 3rd, 10th, 17th
Break: May 24th, 2009
Second session: May 31st, June 7th, 14th, 21st
Location: Studio 665, 17 Campbell St., Woburn, MA
Time: 4:30pm - 6:30pm
