One word: "OMG!" Sagra=Huge!

Well, "OMG" isn't a word, but point being, if you missed last night at Sagra, it was a heck of a party! This issue of "Salsa Update" was supposed to go out yesterday to invite everyone, but a server snafu presented a snag--we're sorry. Nevertheless, a near capacity crowd of 180 people were in the house, hard core salseros, novices, local/Davis Sq. party seekers, latinos, non-latinos, and everyone else alike. Good drinks, great music, free appetizers, Johnny and Kelly's lesson, and the whole bit. The SalsaBoston team is happy to say, Salsa Wednesdays are BACK and better than ever! Stay tuned for photos.

It's funny how sometimes when faced with adversity, the best things come of it. Thanks everyone for the support.

NOTE: While we know it's not the biggest place in the world (actually, it is pretty big), later this summer the upstairs is opening and will be a huge dance club, similar in function what ATN was like but definitely done up in the style we've been seeking for nearly a decade. So join us as we host a great party downstairs for the summer, and it'll surely be "off da hook" when the club opens in a couple months! GOOD NEWS #1: The first of the licenses was approved with flying colors Tuesday and the owners expect smooth sailing.

Salsa Wednesdays at Sagra (formerly at AnTuaNua)
400 Highland Ave, Davis Square/Somerville
(ample free municipal parking, and 100yds from the Red Line)
617-513-9841 (Call to reserve a table or to book a group)

Dear Salseros!

Some very exciting news for you! After four years at An Tua Nua, we're relocating Salsa Wednesdays to a very cool new venue, Sagra Restaurant, right in the heart of Davis Square in Somerville. We're doing this because we felt it was time to find a nicer place more suitable to the needs of Salseros. We had some great times at An Tua Nua, but we're really looking forward to the new place. The consensus is two thumbs up!

Each Night:
9:30pm-10:15pm: Beginner/Adv. Beg. Salsa Lessons with Salsa Y
Control/Johnny & Kelly
Dancing! Salsa/Latin with resident DJ's D. Martinez and Hernan
(note: lessons with MetaMovements from 7-9 will resume will resume later
this summer, as we don't have space lined up for those times yet)

About Sagra
Sagra Restaurant is a very elegant fairly new Italian Restaurant in Davis Square. We will be on the ground level this summer, and by the end of the summer they are building out the 2nd floor with a full dance hall, the likes of which we've been dreaming of for years. Join us for what we predict is going to be a great new home for Salsa!

- Elegantly decorated restaurant with a full bar
- 1 minute from the Red Line ("Davis Square")
- Nice wooden dance floor (moderately sized, until later this summer when we
move upstairs)
- Outdoor terrace and open air bar area
- A great loungie flavor
- Very friendly staff and management
- Tons of free municipal parking lots and street parking (note: meters go until 8pm)
- The menu is supposed to be awesome! Modestly priced gourmet Italian, most items $10-$19. (Kitchen closes at 10pm presently)

Havana Fridays and Saturdays

News from Havana Club:

Spring has sprung, and we're looking forward to yet another fun-filled evening of salsa dancing this Friday night in Central Square! Please note that the party will begin with salsa lessons at 9pm. The rueda lessons will return fairly soon- once the party runs 'til 2am. And by starting our evening at 9, nobody has to rush to the party after work!

And this Havana Saturday in Boston we are pleased to present DJ Sonerito (aka Salsa y Control Dance Co's Andres Giraldo). Not only is Andres a world-class salsero (and a gentleman), but he and his brother also have one of the finest collections of salsa and latin music. Come on by for an amazing evening of dancing at one of Boston's most beautiful venues. The bands (like the rueda lessons on Fridays) will return soon though! May 9th, Rumba Na Ma. May 16th, Grupo Fantasia. If you like Havana Saturdays in Boston, and want to see it continue, come on out and show your support!
