8-9pm: Introductory and Intermediate Levels

The "wheel", or it can be described as "Salsa
meets square dancing" without the country-western connotations,
or even "Synchronized Salsa". Casino Rueda
is an exhilarating group Salsa dance, which is extremely
popular in Miami, Cuba, and is growing in many parts of
the world. SalsaBoston is now bringing it to An Tua
Nua in conjunction with the JAM'NASTICS
and the MIT
Casino Rueda Group, some of whom (and me) happen to
be from Miami.

Several groups in the area teach
Casino Rueda in studio settings and use it in performances,
but you see very little of it in the clubs. We aim
to change that!
| Introductory Lessons |
Introduction to Casino Rueda, including
basic steps and moves. The class assumes you
know some basic Salsa steps.
(If you don't know a little basic Salsa, it's
best to first take Johnny and Kelly's beginner
Salsa class which is right after the Rueda class
at 9:15, and try Rueda the following week.)
No partner needed. |
Intermediate
Level
(ongoing) |
Assumes you have mastered the introductory
class. The class will be an ongoing revolving
series focused on teaching a dozen or two common
"moves" or "calls" so everyone
knows them. The class is designed so that
more people know how to do the dance and can do
it in nightclubs in Boston more regularly.
No partner needed. |
Advanced Level
(TBA) |
At present there will not be an advanced
level class, but advanced Casino Rueda dancers are
invited to come and practice. A class may
be added as demand warrants. |
