This Saturday we will have two competitions: a "Jack and Jill" Amateur division, and the Kickoff Preliminary Round of the Salsa Open. Whether you are aspiring performer (Jack and Jill) or a legendary performer (Salsa Open), come on by and let's see what you've got!!!!

The New England Open Salsa Competition is back!

This Saturday SalsaBoston with Havana Club host the first of a series of Preliminary Rounds this Summer.

This year it is an open competition, meaning anyone can enter. The competition consists of a number of preliminary qualifying rounds, held throughout the summer of 2008. At each preliminary, the top contestants will be invited to participate in the semi's in the Fall, and the top 6 couples will ultimately compete in the finals.

Preliminary rounds: all couples dance together for 2 min. Judges will select the top 4 couples for an additional 2 minutes of dancing, and the finalists (2 couples) will be selected by audience vote/applause. Couples may enter as many preliminaries as they wish until they have qualified. However, couples that have already qualified may not re-enter. Individuals that qualified with one dance partner but wish to compete in the semi's with a different partner must re-qualify.

Semi-finals and finals will be judged by a distinguished judging panel. Finals prizes TBA but will consist in part of significant cash prizes.

Jack and Jill Rules: Participants must be amateur dancers.  Couples will be assigned by random lottery at the time of the competition. All couples will dance 2 minutes as a group, and judges will advance 4-6 couples to the final round. The final round (immediately following) will consist of 2 additional minutes of dancing, and the winners will be decided by audience vote.
