With that said, listen to the advice and take or leave whatever best fits you because everyone is different.
I would just add though that if you are new to the scene, especially if you're female, definitely wait months or even a year until you know people on the scene pretty well and can observe people's actions and habits on and off the dancefloor before you jump into anything new. Also, if you're female remember that one of your most valuable resources may be other women on the scene. Unfortunately, you are least likely to meet them since you're not dancing with them. But make the effort to get to know some of them. Women can warn you about things you may not hear otherwise. But still with that, take their advice with a grain of salt. And you will also hear warnings from other males, sometimes men warning you about each other. Be smart, use your own judgment and take everything with a grain of salt.
And lastly, don't forget that there are PLENTY of other fish outside of the Sea Called Salsa! :)
