Well, there's a bit of a drought of good live music in Boston. Reason being is it isn't particularly supported by the dance community, and in a vicious circle, the live music isn't particularly that great. Hard to say what came first. With a half dozen or so Salsa DJ's around whom we've "cultivated" and who have taken to specializing in spinning what the salseros really like, it's hard for any band to compete.

But, there is some around:

Johnny D's, Sundays, house salsa/latin band

Masa, Thursdays, varying artists and latin genres, though more of a bar scene than great dancing.

Green St. Grille, Sat? Kilombo Mambo? I'm not sure how happening this is.

Monthly, "El Bembe", Fridays. Different band each month. Usually pretty good.

also, Gian Carlo plays around town, I think at the middle east/zu zu right now (do a search in the email archive).

And some other stuff here and there, mostly special gigs. I send out the annoucements on the list when they come in.

Hope that helps.
