To answer your question, the reason why not is because people do in fact ask/wonder about the information gap and this provides the official answer. Conveniently, secondarily, it also provides an opportunity for response.

That's about it really. However, the history in question is very recent, and my personal opinion is that individuals who happen to be in a postion on influence in a given community and who go out of their way to disrupt what others are doing, ought to be exposed.
