I had to chime in here about the $4 water because I remember paying the same at the Hyatt and was also extremely offended by it. I fully agree that we should support the bar when we dance and I make it a point to get a couple of alocoholic drinks in addition to the water I need because we dancers sweat so much. But not when I feel I'm being ripped off. I now act "cheap" when I go to events at the Hyatt and get my water at the fountain in the bathroom. It's really not even the money but the principle. The truth is when I buy $2 waters I tip $1 on top so its only a buck difference. Poor business decison in my opinion. I don't like to be offended. At the Hyatt anyway I'm one of your dreaded cheap Bostonians...but they created me. I won't support the same people that offend me.
: By the way, is the price of water the criteria you use to evaluate the quality of an event? Man, I hope not....
: Keep dancing,

: : : I actually think they are better than Olaf's events, which I will NEVER attend again. And I know lots of people are gonna go to this.
: : : $4 for a bottle of water, c'mon!!!!!

: : $4 for water? What event was that? Are you sure it was my event, because we've never ever charged $4 for water. If it was at the Hyatt, then that's the Hyatt's pricing and you'd be paying the same there regardless of who throws the party.
: : Actually, come to think of it, way back, I vaguely recall that at the *very first* party we did there in 2005, they screwed up and didn't stock regular bottled water and might have been selling Apolonaris or some shi-shi water for $4. Maybe that's what you're talking about. We fixed that ever since, which is why you can get water at a normal price there. But, it's still the same, whether it's SalsaBoston, Pabon, Hernan, April, Masacote, or whoever. So, you're welcome.

: : But generally speaking, if someone was charging $4 there's probably a good reason for it, which is to make the economics work out for either the promoter or the venue. In other words there are costs that have to be covered. I don't agree that charging $4 is the way to do it, because, as you, people would feel ripped off. More correctly perhaps would be to raise the ticket price and charge less for water.
: : Also, people should support the bar as a general mindset. It makes for more and better events, because quite frankly Salseros in particular have a rap for being "cheap", which is why most venues simply won't touch hosting Salsa parties.
: : Anyway, have a nice time this weekend.
