: Two Workshops—Continuing the Series : By Professional Dancer & Instructor : From : Santo Rico : Of NYC : Presenting… : Pierina Sanchez : : *Workshops to be held bi-weekly* : Next workshop: October 7, 2007. : Pierina Bio: : Well known in the NYC salsa world, Pierina is a passionate and amazing dancer and person. She spins at the speed of light with impeccable technique, precision, and grace. Always happy, smiling and energetic, she embodies the definition of mambo and style. Currently, Pierina is a member of the world renowned Santo Rico Dance Company, famous both locally and abroad for its fast spinning and unique style. Pierina was hired to tour with Santo Rico’s fully adult company when she was only 16 and remains its youngest member. At the Santo Rico Dance School, Pierina served as the styling and spinning instructor. : She has danced all over the United Sates, including the West Coast Salsa Congress, NY Salsa Congress, NY/NJ Festival, Philadelphia Salsa Congress and countless others. Pierina loves to teach and, does so with great diligence, care, charisma and amazing detail. : Willie’s Bio: : Born and raised in New York City, Willie Sanchez’s salsa dance career began in 2003. He has trained with several dance companies including: Jam’nastics’ “Salsa Encendida” and “Melaza”. He has also been a performing member of the MIT Casino Rueda group, where he served as choreographic and artistic director from 2004-2005. In addition, Willie has had much exposure to many NYC masters such as Santo Rico, Inc., Eddie Torres, Yamulee dancers, and several others. His style remains uniquely one, developed on the dance floors around the U.S. and Europe. Currently, he performs and teaches with Pierina Sanchez in and around the Boston area. : An innately joyful person, Willie truly enjoys sharing his passion of dance through teaching, and performing. When he’s not wearing his white lab coat, you can find him on the dance floors of Boston, DC, New York, and Europe- eager for another dance! : : Styling & Spinning : 2:00pm – 3:15pm : Community Arts Center * 119 Windsor Street * Cambridge : This workshop will be separated into two parts. : First, emphasis will be placed on styling and body movement for both men and women. This portion of the workshop will focus on allowing you to add more personality to your dancing. The piece taught will be broken down into basic body movements such as body rolls, head whips, arm paths etc. : Next, the world’s most effective method of spinning will be introduced. This method will improve your speed, reaction time and balance both in your own dancing and during partner work. : : Partner work technique : 3:15pm – 4:30pm : Community Arts Center * 119 Windsor Street * Cambridge : This workshop will also be divided into two parts. : First, a quick warm up exercise will include a fast-paced, fun footwork routine. : Next, an intermediate-advanced turn pattern will be taught by Willie and Pierina. This pattern will be used to break down important elements of leading and following with rigorous detail.
