I've gone to Cuba, Panama and Mexico and have sampled a bit of their salsa scene. Just wanted to warn you that you may not get the salsa you are looking for. The common styles here (On1 and On2) are not common in those countries and their styles are very different (much more dance by feel and less structured or ball room influenced). Lessons are not nearly as common. I was shocked that the US has much better dancers in this style anyway. Some of them dont even consider our style of salsa to be salsa at all. So make sure you know what you're getting before spending all that dough.

I have enough conversational Spanish and I've traveled through Brazil/Guatemala extensively so I feel comfortable getting around. I was considering Ecuador/Peru/Columbia. I was looking at a trip now to Quito and then a side excusion to Galapekos islands.

: Cheap/direct flights out of Boston would also be a big help. I heard that Puerto Rico has direct flights out of Boston but I do not know if that would warrant a 2 week trip.
